作品介紹
Egon Schiele was interested in the distinctive language of thehuman body, expressed both through fine and extreme mental andsexual transformations. In 1915, Schiele married Edith Harms. Edithand her sister Adele sat as models for the artist. The empty spacearound the seated model enhances the figure’s sitting position.Although this is a woman closely related to the artist, his belovedEdith, she is portrayed assuming a provocative, relaxed pose,wearing black stockings and a hitched-up petticoat. The overallvisual impact of the image is completed by an expressive tonalityand the visible strokes done with gouache. Schiele studied andstaged the poses of his models to the extent that ultimately heachieved a deformed and even grotesque effect. The artist disruptedthe deep-rooted contrast between beauty and ugliness, introducingthe provocative concept of the novel combination of form andemotion, which – in later years – he shifted more towards a senseof mystery.

畫家簡介
埃貢·席勒（EgonSchiele，1890－1918），奧地利繪畫巨子，師承古斯塔夫·克里姆特，維也納分離派重要代表，是20世紀初期一位重要的表現主義畫家。席勒受到弗洛伊德、巴爾等人的思想影響，其的作品特色是表現力強烈，描繪扭曲的人物和肢體，且主題多是自畫像和肖像。在席勒的肖像作品中人物多是痛苦、無助、不解的受害者，神經質的線條和對比強烈的色彩營造出的詭異而激烈的畫面令人震撼，體現出一戰前人們在意識末日降至時對自身的不惑與痛苦的掙扎情感。
